Pulse Oximeter is a digital monitor designed for functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin (SpO2), pulse rate and pulse strength on the finger tip. The unit is operated by battery. Oxygen saturation is the percentage of oxyhemoglobin (HbO2) that is combined with oxygen against all combinable hemoglobin (Hb). It is an important physiological parameter involved in respiration and circulation. This instrument can also be used to measure the pulse rate via artery. Normal SpO2 values are between 95-100% and less than 90% cause’s hypoxemia. Blood O2 levels below 80% may compromise organ function and should be promptly addressed. Continued low levels of O2 may result in respiratory or cardiac arrest.
